King Mhonnen is fairly similar to most kings; he wants power and prosperity for his country of Cydonia, and although he cares for his one son and two daughters, he will marry off his daughters for political alliances through marriage. He himself was betrothed to his wife because of state affairs, and he's gotten along with his wife, for although they aren't the best of friends, they allow each other space, comforting each other when needed. Although he's considering [several: proposals] for the older of his two daughters including prince not of their family, he is also hosting a tournament in the town of his castle, the winning knight being someone that he will also consider for marriage. He has no idea that a few of the tax collectors have taken it upon themselves to raise the taxes to take more profit, causing a small band of Robin Hood - like bandits to seek revenge, which only causes the tax collectors to charge more.
Jousting tournaments have been held in many towns and villages, and eight had travelled to [or already live in] the town of the king. There, they are to live until the tournament has come to a conclusion, meeting the locals, and some bedding the girls. Two young noble men have come to join in the festivities, as well, and although the king's own son (being a royal) isn't allowed to compete, the visiting prince does, secretly. Also competing in secret is a girl of the town, raised by her brothers. Three daughters of nobility have come to see the tournament and stay in the castle, and visit with the two princesses, who are worrying about the fate of the older. Their main handmaiden and friend relays the castle gossip to trusted friends in the village, keeping them updated whenever possible. Another girl brought by a shallow noble family is one who leads a life vaguely like Cinderella, for she was taken in when a child, made a servant, but was then [elevated in: rank] within the family when she developed a likeable appearance, for they hope to marry her off. Two siblings are part of a miniature rebellion, robbing the nobles as they arrive, though the male of the two develops feelings for one of the nobles girls later on. And, while the tournament is yet to begin officially, a girl is found, a victim of amnesia, and although she was abandoned by enemies of her noble father in this country, who is at war with her own, she doesn't know it. In return, supporters of the king of her native land are planning to kidnap one or both of King Mhonnen's daughters as revenge, demanding a ransom, the 'evil' charries also needing people to play them. All of these characters, along with the knights, are to live near each other for a while. Hearts will be broken, [lives: taken], backs stabbed, and glory earned.
