Some facts about Cydonia and its neighbouring nations.
CYDONIA - based on Medieval England//France, with similar climate. Terrain is mostly hilly, with a few plains, much of the land is covered in forests, but there are plenty of open, farmed areas. Bitterly cold winters, warm, balmy summer. Think of it as England in the north, and southern France, in the south. A small range of mountains creates a barrier along most of the border between Cydonia and its neighbour to the north.
CALIMSHAN - seen as sort of Middle Eastern//Mediterranean. Relies heavily on its ports, as the sea is its eastern border. Most of the central area of Calimshan is arid, with dry, crusty desert. There's one region with sand dunes, but for the most part, the desert has hard footing with a scraggly shrub here and there. Hills here and there, the terrain and climate is much milder near the coastline, where most of the inhabitants live. Along the west border, where it meets Cydonia, it's a bit colder, with a half - dead forest running right up to the cliffs. About half of the border between Calimshan and Cydonia is blocked off by sheer cliffs, created by plate tectonics, and causing that area of Cydonia to overlook Calimshan.
NORTHLANDS - is very mountainous, with some plains. Bitterly cold winters, is still cool in the summer. Pack horses are heavy set with thick, shaggy coats for much of the year. There's no proper 'civilization', but rather tribal clans, named after various animals. Fur and leather are the main materials for garments, and the people are usually bundled up against the cold. Lack of rich resources causes the people to move about most of the time, among the mountains and valleys. Considered primitive, rely on Elders for advice, and are quick to fight.
HANDORN - bitter cold much of the year, with low growing vegetation. It is not densely populated at all, with mostly clustered villages around water sources at at the sea. They rely mostly on trapping, trading furs and goods, and fishing. They are also sea-faring people, and will brave the cold elements to better their lives. Very traditional lifestyles, with set places for the men and women.
LONDOR - also like England in weather. There, they farm and grow livestock - mostly cattle and sheep - and often trade with their neighbours to the north. Their plains are vast, their horses hardy, and there are rumours of talking creatures there. (this country used for Narnia-esque RPs) The visiting Prince is from here.
KILBAR - similar to Spain, the people like the Telmarines in the Chronicles of Narnia. Dark haired and dark eyed, they pride themselves on good sailors, seeing as how their country is a peninsula. They love their colourful festivities and visitors are mostly welcome, though rules for their soldiers tend to be less strict. The visiting Princess is from here.
KESH - entirely desert except for its grassy coastlines. The deserts are sparsely inhabited by nomads in veils and billowing robes who consider horses to be prized companions. They are fierce warriors and do not take kindly to strangers, but can be seen trading what little they have to stay alive. Slavery is not extinct here, and along the rich ports and towns that line the coast, you'd better watch your back.
KINGDOM OF ROLDEM - full of beautiful architecture and crowded cities, the island is rich and hilly, with busy ports and lots of trading. The people here welcome foreigners and love court festivities, but there is always still plotting behind the curtains. Their magical advisors are becoming too powerful, and living unnaturally long lives.. Distant relations to the Cydonians. The visiting twin nobles are from here.
